“This was dinner tonight, with leftovers for breakfast. It was awesome! I used whole wheat pizza dough which a local market sells. I couldn’t stretch pizza dough into an even circle if my life depended on it, so ours was a ‘rustic rectangle’. 😝 I used five eggs, plus dollops of homemade pesto. We piled baby spinach on top and ate it with knives and forks. This is a keeper for sure.”

What is Breakfast Pizza?
Breakfast pizza essentially takes all the deliciousness of a traditional pizza and ‘breakfast-ifies‘ it. In my recipe, I top a regular pizza crust with the fillings and flavors you’d typically serve at breakfast, like eggs and bacon. I also add pizza sauce and shredded cheese because what’s a pizza without red sauce and cheese, EVEN if it’s for breakfast? I just love the combo of gooey melted cheese, savory sauce, and the runny egg yolks on top of a crispy crust. It’s like your favorite breakfast sandwich but made BETTER!!
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make this homemade breakfast pizza:
- Bacon: Bacon on pizza is a no-brainer, so the fact that we’re combining them for breakfast is just pure genius. I like to cook my bacon on the stovetop because it’s quicker, but you could also bake it in the oven.
- Pizza Dough: I use pre-made pizza dough from the store. It’s a simple shortcut I’m happy to take if it means I have breakfast on the table faster. However, I’m no stranger to making pizza dough at home when I have the time, so feel free to try my homemade pizza dough, thin crust, or no-yeast pizza dough recipes instead. A tortilla or crescent roll dough will also work as a base!
- Pizza Sauce: I like a classic red pizza sauce, but you can use white sauce, sausage gravy, or even go sauceless.
- Shredded Cheese: You can use any cheese you like. In my photos here, I used a mix of leftover cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
- Eggs: This recipe makes about 4 servings (2 slices each), so I use 4 eggs to make sure each person gets a whole egg. I pull my pizza from the oven once the cheese has melted and the egg yolks are still runny, but you can cook it for longer if you prefer firmer yolks.
- Green Onions: For some color and a little crunch. Sprinkle them on top before serving.
What Else Can I add?
I’ve kept the recipe below pretty simple, but it’s actually a great opportunity to go wild with the leftovers in your fridge for even more toppings! Here are some alternative or additional topping ideas that I love:
- Bell pepper
- Onion
- Ham
- Spinach
- Tomato
- Feta
- Breakfast sausage
- Hashbrowns
- Mushrooms
- Scrambled eggs (only cook them halfway done because they’ll finish cooking in the oven! Otherwise, they’ll become dry and rubbery).
Budget-Friendly Tips!
If you’re working on a super tight budget, here are a few ideas to keep the cost of this recipe for breakfast pizza LOW:
- Make your own dough: The ingredients for pizza dough are as simple as they come, so making it from scratch is always going to be the cheapest option. I’ve even par-baked a tortilla for an ultra-thin and crispy crust before!
- Use less cheese and more eggs: Cheese can get pretty pricey. So, to cut some costs, I’d double the amount of eggs to cover more of the surface of the pizza and reduce the cheese by half. It will still be delicious!
- Cut back on the meat: The bacon is the most expensive ingredient I’ve used in this recipe, but you could easily cut the amount of meat in half and supplement with some extra veggies! Using lower-cost meat, like deli ham or sausage, is another great option.
Storage & Reheating
I much prefer this breakfast dish served fresh, but it’s pizza, so even leftovers are pretty darn good! Store your cooled breakfast pizza slices covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. I’d reheat them in the oven to keep the crust crisp, but the microwave works fine in a pinch. Just keep in mind the crust will be softer when reheated in the microwave. Any runny egg yolks will also fully cook during reheating.

How to Make Breakfast Pizza – Step By Step Photos
First, cook 8 oz. bacon in a skillet over medium heat until brown and crispy. Drain the bacon on a paper towel-lined plate. (You can use breakfast sausage in place of bacon, if preferred). Or, you can use our oven-baked bacon method if preferred.
Preheat the oven to 450ºF. Stretch 1 large pizza dough out over a pizza pan, then spread about ½ cup of pizza sauce over the surface of the dough (use more or less sauce to your liking).
Sprinkle about 2 cups of shredded cheese over the surface of the pizza (we used a mix of cheddar and mozzarella because we’re using up leftovers!). I like to save a handful of the cheese to add on top of the eggs. Crack four eggs onto the pizza, spaced out evenly over the surface.
Crumble the bacon over the surface of the pizza, then sprinkle any remaining cheese on top.
Make sure the oven is fully preheated to 450ºF, then bake the pizza for 12-15 minutes, or just until the egg whites are set, the yolks are still soft, and the dough is golden brown around the edges.
Top the pizza with 2 sliced green onions, cut into eight pieces, then enjoy!
